Today is the one-week anniversary of Elijah’s surgery. I’ve personally been surprised at how well it’s gone so far and all I can say is that it’s truly an answer to prayer. We know that so many are praying for us and God has definitely shown grace on Elijah and our family so far.
I mentioned yesterday that we were going to give him his first shower last night. I have to say that it was a bit of a fail. I won’t get into all of the specifics, but things just didn’t work out too well. It was mainly the result of not really being fully ready to do it and also rushing the process. It ended up just being a bit uncomfortable and stressful for all involved. We’re getting things better setup so that next time it should go more smoothly, but last night was just a mess. Thankfully nothing really bad happened, and we did get him clean, so ultimately we achieved what we needed to, it just wasn’t much fun.
He slept well again last night and slept in quite a bit this morning. Around lunch time we took a trip to Walmart and Sam’s Club. That went pretty well, and it was nice to get out of the house. One of the things we picked up at Walmart was a handheld shower head that we can use to better wash him. That was one of the issues with the shower last night. Putting him under a normal shower head didn’t really work too well. Anyways, back to our shopping trip. We wanted to let him push himself around for a bit, but that didn’t work too well. This wheelchair is a bit wider and the brakes on it are in a spot where they hit his hands when he tries to turn the wheels himself. He can do it, but it’s just not too easy or comfortable with his hands hitting the brakes. But we wheeled around for a bit and did some shopping and looking, and grabbed some lunch.

After we came home, we got a knock on the door with a special delivery for Elijah. Our good friend Mrs. Chickie had sent Elijah a bouquet of balloons with a wonderful note. That was a great surprise, especially considering we told him that we weren’t going to open any presents today.

After rest time, we played a little Mario Kart and then some more friends of ours, the Kary’s, stopped by to drop off some dinner for us, which was delicious by the way! Elijah had some new racing partners for a while too which gave him a break from having to race mom and dad.

At some point in the day Julia and I also worked on gathering together all of the cards we’ve received so far and hung them on the wall as a reminder to all of us of all the support and love we’ve received from everyone. Here’s a look at what we have so far.

Elijah has received some great cards, and we love to look at them over and over again.
It’s been another good day, and we’ll see what tomorrow has in store!
