Pool Party!

Well, ok, it wasn’t really a pool party, but we did finally get in the pool! I’ll get to that in a minute, though.

The day went well. It was my first day back at work, and it was hard waking up early again! The first day back after time off is always tough, but this was even more challenging as some great friends and coworkers of mine left the company while I was off for Elijah’s surgery. So, I was returning to work without them there, which was sad. The day went quickly, though, so that was good. Plus, as I mentioned before, I’m able to work from home for the next few weeks, so that really helps us out a lot with taking care of Elijah.

Abigail spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa Rice’s, so she was gone this morning. Julia and Elijah did their homeschooling while I worked on the computer. Elijah had a hard time focusing during school today, but that’s not that unusual for him. Still he did well, and is excited about some of the projects he’s going to get to do soon.

Grandma Rice brought Abigail home around lunch time, and the afternoon when pretty normal after that. I had to run to a couple stores late in the afternoon and when I got home, our neighbor Kayle was over playing Monopoly Jr with Elijah and Julia. Don’t worry, Abigail got to spend a good amount of time playing with her too, mainly taking silly pictures on her phone!

I had stopped on my way home to pick up some pizza for dinner. But not just any pizza. If you haven’t heard of Papa Murphy’s, it’s a take and bake pizza chain. They sell little kits for kids to make their own personal pizzas. These are a special treat we get for the kids every once in a while. I picked up kits for Elijah and Abigail and got another pizza for Julia and I. The kids had fun putting together their own pizzas, and enjoyed eating them as well!

Then then, after dinner it was time to go swimming. Here are a few videos from our little pool party.

It went pretty well. Elijah tried to move around quite a bit and did a fairly good job getting himself around after a while. It’s a little hard to know how much is too much though, so we tried to keep his movement moderate just to make sure he didn’t overdo it. You could tell it was awkward for him to move his legs too much or to move them certain ways. He also seemed to have pain in one of his feet so he would kind of hop around on the other foot most of the time. I’m not sure exactly what the reason for that was, but hopefully it’s not something that will last. We’ll see how he does tonight sleeping and then tomorrow. Hopefully he won’t be too sore, since this is the most he’s moved his legs in a long time. He seemed to be doing fine after we got out, but I know sometimes those things take a little while before you really feel it. It was good to see him out of a chair, though, and able to move himself around and to move his legs. Continue to pray for his healing and that learning to use his legs again will go smoothly.

  1. Wow, looking very good. I will pray it doesn’t hurt so much and that he does get better at using his legs quickly. Thank you Lord Jesus for all your blessings to this child and the family.
Was funny, in the video of Elijah in the green ring, there were facial moments when he looked just like Nathan. Wow.
