Healing.

There’s not a lot to share today regarding what we did, but what I did want to share is an update on his healing.

Warning: there is a picture of one of his incisions towards the bottom of this post.

Julia’s sister Jennifer took Abigail for most of the morning and early afternoon. I was working from home on the computer, so Julia and Elijah were able to do their homeschooling without any interruptions. Today’s schooling went pretty well and quickly. Today was the weekly trip to Grandma and Grandpa Rice’s shop, and then home for lunch. Jennifer dropped off Abigail after lunch, and left our niece Hope with us for the afternoon. The kids went down for their rest time, and we played some Mario Kart when they got up.

Our family friend Julie, who works at Dave and Shelagh’s shop, brought over some yummy dinner and gifts for the kids.

The Buchers came by a little later to pick up Hope and joined us for dinner. They ended up spending most of the evening hanging out with us.

So, it was a good day with a good mix of quiet time, getting out, and seeing friends and family.

Here are the two things that stuck out to me today. The first was when I walked into Elijah’s room earlier in the day and Julia had taken off his wedge. He was sitting in bed with his legs making somewhat of a diamond shape and playing with Legos within the diamond. As you can see from the picture, his knees are quite far down and look to be almost resting on the bed. It didn’t even occur to me at first, but this is something he wasn’t able to do before the surgery. We didn’t move his legs around any more than that to see how they could bend and work around each other, but even this shows an increase in his mobility.

The the second thing was when I put him into the shower and I noticed some of the steri-strips coming off of his incisions, showing the healing skin underneath. I’m sure there’s more like this underneath the tape that’s still there, but he doesn’t like to pull off the tape so we’ll have to wait until it comes off on its own. This was the first time we saw this, though, and it just shows how far along the healing has come, at least on the outside.

He’s making progress and doing well. His pain management it’s still going well, and we’ve even started to cut back on the over-the-counter medications. The rash on his bottom continues to get better as well. It’s another great report, and we couldn’t be happier. Thank you all for all of your prayers, and please keep them coming!
