Starting to move more.

I won’t get into much detail about our day, as it was a pretty normal Thursday for us. What I did want to talk about, though, is the progress Elijah’s making with moving on his own.

After rest time, Julia and I were in Abigail’s room laying on the floor with her. After a few minutes of alone time with her, Julia went and got Elijah from his room and brought him into Abigail’s room. She laid him on the floor with us. I suggested to him that he try to crawl, to see if he could do it. I was pretty sure he could, but we hadn’t tried it yet. He tried it, and though he was a little awkward at first, he quickly got the hang of it and was crawling around pretty easily. Well, it was easy on the carpet, but not as easy on the tile floor. He was also able to crawl to places and then pull himself up, which meant he could potentially move around through the house and get into different seats on his own. Here’s a video of him, and his sister, crawling out the living room from Abigail’s room.

I think this made him feel pretty good, and gave him some more confidence with his own mobility.

Later on in the evening, after we finished playing some Mario Brothers, we were getting ready for showers. Elijah quickly hopped up from his chair and stood up on his own. Then he let go of the table he was using to hold himself up and he tried to stand without any assistance. He quickly lost balance and had to grab the table or sit back down. However, after doing it a few times, he was able to balance pretty well while standing. I took a picture of him doing this.

Then I thought it would be good to get a video of him doing it. I switched over to video, and got him standing. But then he took off walking! He didn’t make it too far before losing his balance, but he got a few steps in and he did it all on his own. Had we known he was going to do it, maybe we would have given him his walker to see if he could make it further, but this was a fun little spontaneous exercise. It also shows how quickly he’s making progress.

He has his second physical therapy appointment tomorrow, and I’m sure he’ll do well with it, assuming he can keep in the giggles!

On a different note, it was present day today, and he got to open another present from Uncle Miah and Aunt Wendy. He didn’t have any stamps and was excited to start using them right away!
