A normal day.

Yep, this post is going to be short and boring…maybe. It’s not that we didn’t do things today, but they were just normal life things. Well, I guess things weren’t completely normal, at least for Abigail.

She had her first experience with dental work today. She had been to the dentist once before for a basic cleaning. You know that first visit isn’t really much, just a little bit of teeth brushing to get them introduced to the people and the process so they’re not scared the next time they come. But today was actual work. The problem is that she has a really deep grooves in her teeth, so it’s really hard to clean them out fully, even when brushing well. Because of this, she had developed a cavity that grew to be a decent size. At this point, their recommendation is just to put a tiny crown on the tooth, so that’s what we did. She had nitrous oxide and a shot to numb her up. She did well at the beginning, but got worse throughout the procedure. They eventually got it done, but it wasn’t the best experience for her, or probably for the dentist for that matter.

She did get some play jewelry from the dentist when it was all over, so maybe that made things a bit better. Jewelry always does right?

On a different note, Elijah got to write Hebrew during homeschooling today. Here’s a picture of him showing me what he was writing.

One one random story I can share from this morning, is that Elijah is figuring out more and more what his legs can and can’t do. Obviously we now know that he can put his knees down to the sides when sitting cross-legged, but the changes to his legs affected more than just that. Today, at breakfast he was trying to snuggle up in a ball because he was cold. He was trying to tuck his legs up close to his chest and his knees weren’t going together. He asked us why his knees wouldn’t go together, and we said that it was because the surgery changed how his legs worked. We tried to explain that by giving him more movement in other ways, it would also restrict movement in some ways. I don’t think he really understood, and he started to get upset because he wanted to be able to put his legs close together so his knees were touching. I’m quite sure that his knees could touch if he had his legs out straight in front of him or under him as if he were standing, but because of the way he was tucking them up to his chest, it was causing some resistance. He was getting more and more upset until he finally realized that he could push them together with his hands. That at least worked well enough to get him settled down. I don’t think it’ll be much of an issue moving forward, but it is a difference, and something he may have to get used to.

I’m sure that won’t be the only thing that we discover, but hopefully we can move past them as easily as we did today.
