Little animals!

If you don’t know, we don’t really have any pets. Well, that’s only half true. We do have one pet, Chavo, a box turtle. Julia has had him since she was a kid, so he’s really old. But, he’s not really the cuddly, playful, take him on walks kind of pet. In fact, he’s pretty much the most low maintenance pet there probably is, so much so that it’s easy to kind of forget about him. Anyway, all that to say that if we want to get our fill of animals, we have to do it someplace else. Today we took one of those trips.

No, it wasn’t to the zoo or anything like that, but instead to a local pet store. This pet store has some unique animals, though. Inside, you find most of the regular pet store type animals, minus dogs and cats. They do carry a large variety of chickens, so you get to see a lot of baby chicks and pullets. Here are the kids getting the pullets to peck their fingers:

You can also head out the back door to see some more animals, but you have to watch out as you’re going down the hallway, as there is a special friend roosting right above the walkway. Your timing better be good for this one!

Once out back, they have a lot more animals, but mostly Birds. Lots of varieties of birds.

Julia’s favorite were the piglets. They were pretty cute.

That was our big fun outing for the day, and the kids got to see some animals and even touch a few.

We also had some special guests stop by today. Julia’s Aunt Milly and cousin Tara came by to bring us some presents, dinner, and dessert. Milly stayed and chatted for a while with Julia, while I worked on some projects in the garage. After that we had a delicious dinner and dessert! Yum!

On a different note, Jennifer, Julia’s sister, is doing quite a bit better, and even managed to get out of the house today. She’s still coughing a lot, and going out for that little bit wore her out, but thank God she’s making some progress from where she was!

Overall, we had a good day with a mix of getting things done, having some family time, and relaxing a little bit too. It was a nice Saturday.
